Great Blue Heron in a Great Blue Setting

I wrestled to understand how a bird could hold still for so long. I inched closer and closer for the money shot and the crane didn’t budge. He glanced back at me and spread his wings. He flew and I snapped.

Horses Mountain Pasture

We ran into some deer and then we ran into some horses. At first I thought the deer were pets since they were fenced in, but then I saw the horses and realized how wild it was that we witnessed two bucks and their herd in a pesky situation.

Artist Statement - I arrived at Art school knowing only one definition of art: to be aesthetically pleasing.

Two weeks into art school I learned the Greek definition of art, Mimesis (to imitate life). Later, I learned that theorist

defined art as a way to translate feeling from one person to another, or evoke feelings and emotions. 20th century

theorist defined art as objects that were aesthetically pleasing. Then, I found the definition that resonated with me

the most: “from the mind to the open world.”

Process - Being that this is my first sculpture, I decided to really focus on my new found definitions of art.

After I deconstructed my chair, I noticed each stick had an aesthetically pleasing nature through the use of lines

and curves that formed the legs and back rest of the chair. I used this to my advantage and focused my efforts in

creating a symmetrical cube through measuring, re-measuring, and proper documentation of size and dimensions

present in my preset conditions. I measured the length of each leg, using similar lengths to my advantage in const-

ructing the aesthetically pleasing cube. The inner workings of the cube were designed to represent the inner struggle

of creating art; each stick and different orientations representing the possible solutions or problems that arise in an

artist’s mind. “Art is never finished, only abandoned” The majority of the sticks are wedged together with holes and

dowels, a few sticks are glued together with a dab of wood glue but the whole cube can essentially be dis-assembled.

Mimesis is represented by the mirrors which literally imitate life . Why pink? Well, its 2023 and the Barbie movie just

released, it’s a reflection of the times

I started this piece with high aspirations, to essentially levitate a tangible cloud using

batting, helium, balloons, and a counter weight. Unfortunately, after a couple of tests,

I came to the realization that it was impossible. I underestimated the weight of batting.

So, I decided to play into the irony of that (the things in life that aren’t meant to be).

After my realization, this became a more personal piece. 6 years ago I was working

at a dead end job. I was young, lost, and ambitious with so many thoughts constantly

spiraling in my head. Mainly: what is my purpose? And why do I have such a shitty job?

At that “shitty” job we had a little uniform that would get washed and returned to us on

coat hangers. I have so many of those hangers that I became surrounded by them. So,

I put them into this piece. I braided 3 count hangers and created a cage around my cloud.

A cloud to the eyes but composed of the wrong material, so, he can’t float with

the rest of the clouds.

Although the cloud is trapped in a cage it can still express itself through rain, lightning,

and thunder. Essentially: “brainstorming for the future”.

Koi Pond

Koi Pond Vibes

I don’t know why but Koi fish define chill vibes. I was surprisingly relaxed watching the Koi swim.

It’s not a Sailboat

This photo reminds me of the Simpson’s living room.

Lurking Gators

I never seen a gator up close, I will probably never swim in a lake again after snapping this bad boi.

The past and the present

Its crazy how massive these windmills are and finding a random cemetery in the middle of Texas, hours from Dallas, warranted a stop. “Shy”
